Hazmin Flynt

hazmin_picHazmin studied piano performance for three years at Florida State University before transferring to the University of Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1987.  She spent eight years at FPL where she worked in various areas including engineering design and construction, human resources, and quality improvement.  During that time she was involved in the company’s pursuit of the international quality Deming Prize, making FPL the first organization in the United States to win this prestigious award.  She specialized in training and development, becoming a certified Process Improvement Instructor, a Problem Solving Instructor and a statistical Applications Expert.

She left FPL in 1995 to become an independent quality management consultant, working with clients such as The City Of Jacksonville, the United States Postal Service and the Department of Children and Families.  During that time, Hazmin wrote and developed training curricula and trained participants in the areas of process improvement and problem solving.  She certified training instructors in the same areas, and conducted the certification process for seven statistical application specialists for the Department of Children and Families (District 7 in Orlando, FL). She supported quality efforts through training at the City of Jacksonville who was pursuing the Governor’s Sterling Award.  They received the award in 2001.  Since the criteria for both the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award and the Governor’s Sterling Award are based on the criteria for the Deming Prize, Hazmin’s experience helped support quality efforts for companies that were not only pursuing these awards but also trying to build strong integrated quality improvement into their businesses.

Over the years, she continued her passion for music as a volunteer in local church music programs, but in 2001 she left her career to serve as Director of Contemporary Worship at Heritage United Methodist Church.

In 2005, Hazmin became President of Passion Flower Productions, Inc., a faith-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide opportunities for people to experience God’s grace in relevant ways using music, art and education in secular settings. She has just completed exposed, a music CD, wrote and recorded the music for Shhh…, a faith-based guided imagery CD, and works in partnership with Barbara Stepanik to help at-risk women.
